Blackbirch: The Dark Half Is Out Now!

So, you might not have been expecting a blog from me this week or on a day that isn’t my usual blogging day, but this one is special because my second book, Blackbirch: The Dark Half, is officially out in the world!

By now, all the word clocks have ticked over and you should be able to buy it from the usual retailers of paperbacks and ebooks! Scroll to the bottom of this post for all the buy links, and/or keep reading to find out more about the book and how I celebrated while still in lockdown.

Blackbirch: The Dark Half

Blackbirch The Dark Half Book

Even though this book is the second in The Blackbirch series, it’s actually a scene in The Dark Half that gave me the whole idea for the series. I can’t mention it specifically because of spoilers, but without that scene and the ideas it inspired, these books might not have ever been written. That’s one of many reasons book 2 is my favorite.

If you enjoyed book 1, The Beginning, I hope you’ll like book 2 just as much. The Dark Half kicks off literally where book 1 ended, so if you’ve been waiting to see what happens after that cliffhanger ending, you will not be waiting long!

In book 2 we get to spend more time with Josh, Sarah, Max, and Eve, and finally learn more about Kallie, the mysterious girl of Josh’s nightmares in book 1.

We get to find out how Kallie herself became gifted, her ties to Josh’s family, and a past that has her on the run. There are new foes to fight, questions to answer, and you’ll learn along with Josh how the magick in his veins works.

Book Charts

Blackbirch The Dark Half Release Blog 2

Thanks to pre-orders and buyers on release day, Blackbirch: The Dark Half has already hit #1 on a few Amazon AU charts, most notably, #1 and #2 on the Hot New Releases in Magical Realism YA, #1 in Witches and Wizards Fantasy YA, and #2 on the Magical Realism YA Bestsellers list.

I might have even received one of those yellow Bestseller flags if it wasn’t for The Harry Potter Box Set perpetually being #1 (it blocked The Beginning from being #1 back in February too), but I never thought I’d see my books on any chart, let alone as #1 New Release or a #2 Bestseller, so thank you to everyone who made that possible. It means more to me than you’ll ever know 💙.

The Art Of Celebrating

Blackbirch The Dark Half Release Blog 3

For The Beginning’s book launch, I had a brunch with the Melbourne contingent of the #6amAusWriters crew, and it turned out to be one of the last times I got to eat a restaurant. Now that we’re living in a Coronavirus world, and my state is back in lockdown, my celebration turned into an at-home affair with a cheese plate. Now, I love cheese, so this low-key celebration was perfectly fine by me!

I think any time a writer gets a book out into the world it is definitely a cause for celebration, no matter how big or how small. You worked hard on your book, so always take the time to acknowledge that. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so celebrate today.

Hopefully, sometime soon I’ll be able to celebrate the book with my twin sister. The Dark Half is dedicated to her, and she found that out when I posted her a signed copy last week. I’m looking forward to being able to celebrate with her the next time we’re in the same state/room, whenever that will be.

  1. Seems you’re on the roll, keep it up! Wishing you a lot of satisfied readers.
By the way, the first scene in my writing I thought of seriously was also from book two. It seems that, sometimes, starting from the start just isn’t an option 🙂

  2. Hi Kate, I don’t usually reblog book promos by authors who are not in my blog Authors Hall of Fame, but you’ve provided so many informative posts that I’ve reblogged, I’m making an exception.
If you’d like to send me your author introductory article, so I can include you, please see my submission guidelines at: https://thestoryreadingapeblog.com/contact-me/if-you-are-not-already-in-my-authors-hall-of-fame/ 🤗❤️🤗
